There are two main design concepts combined on this pair of juxtaposition earrings.
The first concept is about the yin-yang symbol. The yin-yang symbolizes two opposites that stay together to make harmony, such as the sun and moon, sky and earth, male and female, water and fire, black and white etc. In the earrings, the yin-yang symbol is used for the main earring parts as well as the ear posts. Two gemstones are used to represent the moon and sun. Besides, their difference in colour they can symbolize the juxtaposition. The silver represents night and the yellow gold represents day.
The second concept is about the eastern and western world. The 3-D form of two halves yin-yang symbol are used to make these two parts of a globe. A half with a map of China and the symbol of their national flag (star) soldered on the inside represents the east, and the another half with a map of Canada and the symbol of their national flag (maple leaf) represents the west. They are far, but close. When put together the two interlocking shapes merge into a whole globe.
