“Life is a stream,
On which we strew,
Petal by petal the flower of our heart;” - Amy Lowell

As these words adorn this page, creating images both beautiful and memorable, a desire to translate this verse into an object was born.

I chose a necklace as it is close to one’s heart; I felt it would best communicate the emotions of life and love to the wearer. As the rose is the ultimate symbol of enduring beauty I chose it as my theme.

The garnets on the surface represent passion, love and the lifeblood that moves beneath all living things. The green tourmaline set in the clasp is for hope.
The rose thorns were created to animate the inner surface of the piece; these speak of the agony of unrequited love.
The chain moves from simple to ornate as it flows around the neck, just as our lives become more complicated from childhood to adulthood.
